Golden Hill

Enhanced by the gardens surrounding many of these old houses, a treat that is open to all.

Welcome to Golden Hill

A bustling, historic suburb offering an iconic view of the whole city.

Golden Hill, a community with a populace of over 14,000, is located east of Downtown San Diego and south of Balboa Park, with great proximity to City College. Because of the large number of pre-1900 residential properties, it is one of San Diego's most historical and distinctive architectural neighborhoods.

Golden Hill first got its name in the late 1800s after it emerged as one of San Diego's top upscale districts. The stunning Victorian, Craftsman, and Colonial Revival mansions that line its hillside serve as a reminder of those opulent days. The community's appeal is further enhanced by the gardens surrounding many of these old houses, a treat that is open to all.

The San Diego region has consistently glorious weather, as any resident can confirm. You will want to go outside and explore each day when you see the beautiful landscapes. Many hiking routes in the Golden Hill area close to Balboa Park provide spectacular views of the breathtaking countryside.

Enjoy the Balboa Park Golf Course, a difficult par-72 and nine-hole executive-level facility where Sam Snead keeps the course. It is only five minutes from Little Italy, the Gaslamp Quarter Historic District, downtown hotels, and the San Diego Convention Center. It also offers spectacular views of Balboa Park, the Pacific Ocean, Point Loma, and Downtown San Diego.

Another way to enjoy the sun is by exploring the Summer Walkabout in South Park. This excursion is a quarterly event that takes place in the evening and features all the distinctive and autonomous establishments in South Park.
